What is the Community College Transfer Opportunity Program at NYU?
NYU offers a program that you may have heard of, which gives transfer students a special opportunity. The Paul McGhee Division of the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies has formed a partnership with the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. This is a scholarship that is focused on bringing qualified transfer students from community colleges to the Paul McGhee Division.

These options enables a student to fully experience a diverse education, while still fulfilling other professional and personal needs as they study. Requirements
Students from a community college hoping to transfer to NYU in this program must meet certain requirements.
These include:
• You must be a student from the community college, who has finished a whole year of full time study. Alternatively, you must have gained 30 consecutive credits at a partner school.
• You must be nominated by a faculty or administrative member from your community college.
• You should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in the community college.
• You must also have at least 48 transferable credits that lean towards a study program by McGhee.
• You must be an American citizen or a permanent resident, who is allowed to fill out the FAFSA form.
Application process
The first step of the application process is the nomination of the student by a member of the administration or faculty in their community college. This will enable the student to be considered for this scholarship. The nomination should take place online at the beginning of the semester the student would like to join NYU. The student is notified via email once the CCTOP nomination is submitted by the administrator or faculty member. The email contains links to the undergraduate online application page. The student is expected to fill the admission application and submit it upon completion. After this, the student is expected to file for the FAFSA. Transferable credits can be obtained from AP or CLEP exams or previous institutions attended by the student.
Pre-admission advice
Not all students who meet all the requirements needed for the CCTOP are admitted into NY McGhee Division. This means you need to do everything you can to increase your chances. A student can better their chances of being selected by sending copies of the unofficial transcripts ahead of time. This way, McGhee can analyze all the courses that they have taken and those that they have earned credit. The university advisers will use these transcripts to assess which courses they'll advise the student to select in the remaining time of study in the community college by considering the major the student wants to pursue at McGhee. Students hoping to qualify for the scholarship are also advised to work hard and earn exemplary grades. Not only will this help their GPA, but it will also help them to earn more credits, which translates to higher financial aid for the community college transfer student.
