Landing the Job and Things To Do After Job Interview

by Damian Wolf

If you want to land a job within any industry today, you will have to go the extra mile. Many job applicants spend most of their time writing their resume and cover letter. Exceptional resumes and cover letters are an important part of the process, since these employment requirements can help you get to the door of the interview. To move to the top of the list of interviewees, however, there are some things that you should do before and after the interview is complete.

Preparing for the Interview

After receiving a call for an interview, your next step involves getting ready for the actual interview. This entails choosing the right outfit for the appointment. For example, if the job is in a professional environment, the best choice or selection may be wearing a business suit with the appropriate shoes and accessories.

In addition to the right type of clothing, you should prepare for the interview by reviewing the different types of interview questions or you may want to set-up a mock interview with receptive co-workers and friends. The kind of interview questions involved will depend on job and the type of interview that is being set-up. While some interviews can include one recruiter or employer, other interviews may include a panel of participants. This means, the applicant will have to anticipate what types of questions will be asked. With this in mind, you should start preparing for this step as soon as possible.

Things To Do After the Interview

Most people know about the importance of writing a good resume and preparing for the interview in advance, since they are staples in the job application process. However, many applicants leave out the last step in the process, which requires them to go above and beyond the competition. Which means, you should know what to do after the interview is over. This step can make the difference between receiving a job offer or being turned down for the position.

After the interview is complete, the interviewee should send the recruiter or recruiters a thank-you note. A prompt thank you note is an effective technique that is used to stay on the employer's mind. Some recruiters recommend emailing the first note within twenty-four hours of the interview. The second note should be hand written and it should be sent via mail (within 1 to 3 business days).

Another effective follow-up to the interview is sending each of the interviewers a powerful follow-up letter. By sending a personalized letter to each interviewee, you will have an additional opportunity to make a good impression, while staying on the decision makes mind.

After the job interview is over, this is an excellent time to do an assessment of how the interview went. In some situations, there may be some areas that should be improved. For example, if the recruiter asked specific job related questions that you did not know or were not familiar with, you should research and find out the answers before going on additional interviews.
