Lifestyle Hacks You Can Use to Save Time, Money, and Travel for Less While Attending Junior College

by A Guest Author

Looking for something specific and maybe a little different from your collegiate experience? You might just be able to find it by attending the right community or junior college. Depending on the school selected, you could be eligible for numerous lifestyle design hacks that enable you to save time, conserve money, and even live outside the country for a semester. Sound interesting? Read on.

Travel: Its become increasingly common for junior colleges to offer study abroad programs. This is a tremendous opportunity if you’ve ever wanted to not just vacation, but live in another country. One big advantage of using a study abroad program to travel is that many schools have reciprocity agreements arranged for students that want to study abroad. This means you’ll pay the same price for tuition abroad that you would by staying home.

Of course you’ll still need to foot the bill for a plane ticket, lodging, food and entertainment while abroad, but these expenses can be partially offset if you’re able to cut expenses elsewhere. For example, many students are able to slash their car insurance and gas bills while overseas.

If you’re already attending college, be sure to consult your guidance counselor for more information regarding eligibility. Some schools require a minimum GPA to be accepted into the program so keep your grades up if this is an opportunity that interests you.

Time: Many students attending four-year universities discover upon graduation that they could have earned the necessary credentials for their field in half the time by attending a junior college. This two year head start means you could be acquiring valuable on-the-job experience, while your peers are still stuck in the classroom.

A few lucrative fields that can be completed in just two-years include the following: air traffic controller, dental hygienist, truck driver and construction worker.

Money: Don’t like spending a lot of money or going into debt? Attending community college can be an effective way to avoid both. According to CNN.com, the average cost of tuition for one-year at a community college is about $3,000. A four-year state institution now averages over $8,000 per year in tuition and fees. Of course, attending a private school could inflate the price tag to over $20,000 per year.

Saving money while going college can be a blessing in a couple of ways. The first is that it will be less stress for you or your family to pay for. Second, you’ll graduate with less debt and less monthly expenses as a result. This means you’ll get to keep more money when you do begin earning that regular paycheck. This might be the best junior college hack of them all.
