Five Reasons To Retake The SATs In Community College

Retake The SATs In Community CollegeHoping to do better in community college or thinking of transferring to a 4-year university, many community college students have been wondering,"can I retake my SATs in college?"

Well, the answer is yes, you can retake the SATs in college.

And there are many advantages to retaking your SATs while at a two year community college, or even a four-year college that you plan to transfer from.

Since this is a community college website, we're going to focus on retaking the SATs in community college.

So why retake the SATs in community college?

Here are five great reasons to retake the SATs in community college while earning your associates degree...

1. Transfer from community college to Ivy League

The biggest purpose of retaking the SATs in community college is to get accepted into a university as a transfer student, and this will give you another chance to score better than you did in high school. Many students who wish to transfer from community college to Ivy League, or to any other competitive university, will want to make sure that they have the best standardized test scores to show to the admissions counselors.

If you're interested in transferring to Ivy League or top universities, read about our community college transfer guide.

At community college, you can retake your SATs to receive a higher score and boost your chances of getting accepted into an Ivy League university from your community college.

Here's the second reason you should retake your SATs in college.

2. You are more mature.

It's been a while since your junior year in high school. This means you're probably more focused and have a better idea of what you want to do academically to achieve career goals. Knowing where you want to transfer to from community college and why you want to transfer can fuel your motivation to study for the SATs and do well when retaking them.

3. You're also smarter now.

Believe it or not, this is another reason to take your SATs again.

Since taking the SATs in your junior year of high school, you've received an additional two years of education which have helped you to develop a better vocabulary, more advanced reading comprehension kills and perhaps, a little more practice mathematically.

These two years of additional education will serve you well when going to write your essay on the SATs, reading those long reading comprehension passages, and thinking quickly for the math section.

4. You get a second chance to study harder.

Perhaps you didn't study as hard as you could have for the SATs while you were in high school. But now, it's time to forgive yourself for what you didn't do in the past, and move forward. This time you have the chance to study far in advance and put in your best effort to really score well on the SATs.

5. If you do poorly, you don't have to show your scores.

Let's say you're reading this post while you already in community college and you don't have a lot of time, then take the SATs anyway.

If you do well, that's great!

If you don't do well, then you don't have to send your scores to universities when transferring. Just send whichever scores will represent you the best. Most universities will only look at those best scores from each section. So even if you do well on two sections when retaking your SATs during community college and worse on one section, your high school best score will still show. I know it might sound too good to be true, so just discuss this with your guidance counselor or advisor and they will confirm this information.

Overall, retaking the SATs in community college is a great opportunity to transfer to a better university than you could have gotten into straight out of high school. I strongly encourage you to retake your SAT and do well on them so they will help you  transfer from community college to Ivy League universities or other top universities like NYU, MIT, USC, or UNC.
