5 Brilliant Student Holiday Destinations

by A Guest Author

The summer holiday period presents a great opportunity for students, especially if they've had a part time job during term-time, or have managed to save some money from other sources.  The college and university years are one of the only opportunities that most people will have to take a month or more out of their regular schedule to go explore the world - but where should you go?  Here's a few of our favorite student holiday destinations.

1. Germany

Germany has a lot to offer as a student holiday destination.  Not only is it inexpensive to travel to, it's an exciting country with lots of history, and lots of things to do.  Germany is home to numerous festivals and conventions for everything from alternative lifestyles to music and video games.  As an added bonus, a lot of people study German at school these days, so basic navigation shouldn't be a problem!

2. Ibiza

Ibiza is one of the ultimate sun, sea and sand destinations, and a favorite of party lovers.  If you're looking for a relaxing holiday where you laze by the pool during the day, sample great restaurants in the evening, and then spend the night enjoying the party scene, then Ibiza is a great place to go.

3. Scotland

While a holiday in Scotland might not sound all that glamorous, it can actually be a lot of fun.  You save money on travel, and can use that to stay at the destination longer, enjoying sports, culture, and the great outdoors.  Scotland has some breathtaking scenery, and is a great place to go for adventure holidays, or just to soak up some of the historic castles and monuments.

4. Argentina

A lot of students choose this destination for their gap year. Argentina is an exciting and varied destination with lots of different scenery, and lots of things to do.  It's also renowned for its great food.  Whether you decide to explore Argentina on a short break, or do a working/volunteering gap year, you'll have a great time and have lots of stories to tell when you get back.

5. Australia

Another popular place for people to go for a gap year is Australia.  However, you don't have to go there for a full year - there are lots of shorter travel experience packages that give people the chance to enjoy everything that Australia has to offer.  Whether you decide to go there to work at a kangaroo sanctuary, backpack through the bush, go on Safari, or just enjoy some surfing, there's something for everyone.

If you're finding yourself stuck for something to do during the summer holidays, take a look at some student travel sites.  You'll be amazed at how inexpensive student holidays to popular destinations can be.  In many cases, it's not hard to get the required paperwork to take a part-time job at your destination, so if you're staying for the full duration of the holidays you can earn some valuable experience while exploring the world. It doesn't get better than that!
