It can be tough to find a job in this economy but with online job boards, it can be as easy as logging onto your computer in your pajamas. The two most well-known job search boards are Monster and Careerbuilder. On both sites you can easily search for any type of job you are looking for by city or post an online resume and let recruiters find you.
Resume
The key to getting a job from these online sites is to keep your resume updated. Even people with a job should keep their resume updated as you never know who is looking for your skills. Thousands of recruiters hit these sites each day looking to fill positions for their company. I posted an online resume to simply see if this worked and within five hours, received a call from a bank who wanted to set up an interview. It was easy. Just post an online resume and keep it updated.
Monster vs. Careerbuilder
In my experience the best job board really depends on what you are looking for. Monster has a lot of entry level jobs whereas Careerbuilder has a lot more experience-wanted jobs. They are both easy to use and make it easy for anyone to post a resume. You will need to watch out for job scams on these sites but those seem to be far and few between.
Introducing FlexJobs
Another useful job search site is FlexJobs. This site is great if you are looking for a flexible full-time or part-time job. You can search by job category or by location. Flexjobs focuses on jobs that are flexible such as work from home and telecommute opportunities. The site also scans all of the job listings and gets rid of the scams, thus making it easier for the user.
Social Networking
It is also important to utilize networking sites such as LinkedIn. LinkedIn can be very useful in a job search as it will connect you to people that actually work at the company that you want to work for. Having a connection such as this can sometimes get your foot in the door.
The way LinkedIn works is that you simply build a profile, post your resume and what you are looking for, and then add your friends from your email contacts. This will build a base of contacts which will then link you to other contacts. You can also search for people and send emails through LinkedIn. Itβs simple to use and you will be surprised by how many contacts you can make.
The key to LinkedIn is to come up with a flashy headline so people will want to read your profile. An example of this would be to use the following: "Ask me how I saved my company over one million dollars." This gets the reader intrigued and thus they click on your profile to see what skills you can offer.
Getting a Dream Job
If you utilize these job sites and social networking sites, you will be able to find the job of your dreams by never even leaving your house. Just remember to keep your profiles and resumes updated so the recruiters get the most accurate information.
