by A Guest Author

An epidemic is spreading across this nation and slowly choking the life out of a majority of people each day. That epidemic believe it or not is obesity and it is taking control like a wild fire. As of 2010, there are approximately 63% of Americans who are overweight. That is a huge number to say the least and needs to be reversed. Many Americans today are either overweight or fall into the category of obesity. Ages range from young and old alike. This is a very serious problem that we as Americans need to take control of and turn our lives around for the better. There are many ways that can assist in achieving weight loss results, things that we can do every day without disrupting our daily lives. It is all about being healthy and that will give you a new kind of happiness.

Losing weight may seem like a daunting challenge. A lot of hard work, sweat and tears, and really it is. It can take a lot of determination to set a goal and get there, but in the end the reward is totally worth it. Look back at your life and see where the weight gain began. Maybe it began when you hit college and had late nights studying. Maybe weight issues as a child has carried you to where you are now. Either way the time is now to no longer be a part of the 63% of Americans who are overweight or obese. Take charge and be in control of your life through a healthy weight loss routine that is doable.

  • Set a Goal: You know that losing weight is something that needs to be done and the time is now. Look at where you are and then where you would like to be. If the amount seems like a big mountain to climb, then start with small goals at a time. After you lose the weight for that month and reach your goal, reward yourself with a new exercise item –not food.
  • Exercise Is Essential: The key to losing weight and losing it the right way is with the addition of exercise. Start small if exercise is something completely foreign to you. As you strengthen and build endurance, push yourself each week to strive for a bigger and better goal with your exercise routine.
  • Eat Healthy: Fast food cannot be a part of your daily life from this point on. Remove it and look at options that are not only healthier for you but can taste great too. When out for the day, pack snacks and lunches that incorporate healthy eating and promote weight loss. One way to help keep anyone on track is a food journal. Logging in everything that was consumed that day, down to the single shake of salt. This can help you stay on track with your eating –writing it down and seeing it on paper helps hold you accountable for what you put in your body.
  • Be Patient: Rome was not built in a day, and neither will your weight come off in a day. You need to remember that it took time to put on the pounds and become overweight, it will take some time getting rid of it and being a healthy size. Just maintain a positive attitude. This is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Be patient with your body and your results, knowing that you will get there with the effort you are putting in.

No longer should you want to be a part of a staggering statistic that shows just how in need of help we really are. Take control of your weight and your life and begin this journey of weight loss and live for each day. This is a journey, something that you will never forget. It is the beginning of a new healthy you and the start of a healthy life.

A process of taking you out of a life that you will never want to go back to. Change your percentage and fight the fight against being obese and live a healthy lifestyle that you deserve.
