Transfer To UVA From Community College With 100% Guaranteed Acceptance

by Chad Agrawal

Transfer To UVA From Community CollegeAre you considering transferring to UVA from community college? Back in 2006, UVA developed a way to make transferring into the university much more accessible for community college student. Striking an agreement with with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), the University of Virginia offers guaranteed admission to students who fulfill certain requirements at community colleges in Virginia. This agreement is called the "Guaranteed Admissions Agreement" or GAA.

But is there more to the GAA than meets the eye? Although I'd like to be able to tell you there's nothing to it other than attending community college in Virginia, the fact is you will still have to hold up your end of the deal. In this post, we will get into a couple of details you should keep in mind from the start to secure your guaranteed transfer spot. Additionally, the GAA does not help students attending community college out of state. For out of state students, we will later discuss options to make you a top transfer student.

Guaranteed Transfer To UVA

For students attending community college in Virginia, the GAA is a great opportunity. However, there is a catch you will want to look out for along the way. This will help prepare you mentally and transfer successfully.

To be eligible for guaranteed transfer, you must earn an associates degree while maintaining at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA and receiving above a C in each class. But, here is the catch! You only get one chance in each class to earn the right grade. That means if you do not earn above a C letter grade in a certain class and you decided to retake the class to raise your grade, you are no longer eligible for the GAA. This is a "single class elimination" transfer opportunity, so you really need to be focused from the start. This community college guide can help ensure that you're receiving top notch grades and succeeding overall in community college.

Transfer From Community Colleges Out of State

For students who want to transfer to UVA from community college, but are located outside Virginia, there is no guarantee at the moment. However, you can still take proven steps that will help you basically guarantee your transfer acceptance. To do this, you should make yourself the best community college transfer you can be.

In order to be an outstanding transfer applicant, you should become a top student at community college, consider retaking your SATs to raise any low scores, and put together an effective transfer application. Luckily for you, anyone can learn how to do all this in my community college guide. Thousands of students have used the same steps to transfer to top universities like UVA, but also Harvard, UPenn, NYU and more. All you need to do is know your plan, and stick to it throughout your community college career.
