College Necessities For First Year Students

by A Guest Author

The end of August and beginning of September are the average opening days for college. If you are a first year student, your college experience awaits you. You get to experience living in a dorm and living on your own. These are going to be the best years of your life, but before we get too ahead of ourselves you need to be prepared! Depending on how far away you will be from home, you will need several items. Here's some of the top items you should highlight on your shopping list.

Laundry Basket

Your mother is not going to be at college to do your laundry. It's finally time for you to take responsibility for your own chores. A laundry basket will not only keep your clothes off the floor, but it will also help you carry your clothes to the laundry room. If you are lucky, it will be relatively close to your room. Depending on your college, you will use your campus ID card or you will use coins to operate the laundry machines.

Book Bag

It may seem like common sense for you to bring a bag for your belongings, but you will be surprised on how heavy some of your books are. Make sure you bring a dependable bag that won't hurt your back or break while your lugging around your work. Bags can range in prices, so find one that will fit into your budget. Having a dependable bag will prevent you from running back to your dorm in between classes to grab other books.

Printer

Even if your college has printers for you to use on campus, you will likely have to pay to print from them. Buy a cheap printer to use while you are at school so you can print and scan papers right from your room. Sometimes the schools printers may be in use, or may not be working. This will save you a lot of stress if you are on a tight time constraint for printing.

Flip Flops

Flip flops are important, very important. You will be sharing showers with you peers. Whether you are at the gym on campus, or in your dorm the showers are used by everyone. Save yourself from any gross infections or any weird germs that may be floating around on the bathroom floors. Your flip flops should be cheap. All they need to do is get you to and from the bathroom while you shower. Your feet will thank you.
