Going to community college to save money is one of the smartest decisions you can make. You do not have to be a business major to know that paying tuition at community college is much cheaper than 4-year colleges and universities. And if you are a business major, I'm pretty sure that you have already calculated it out (unless you are a marketing major).
Okay, I will leave you business majors alone now (I was a business major too so it is fair game). In this post, we will cover how much money you will save by going to community college first. Also, I will share with you some helpful insights that comes along with big savings.
Going To Community College
Going to community college for 2 years, you will have the chance to get a fresh start academically. That means you can shoot for a 4.0 GPA. If you are successful, you could open up doors to transfer to Ivy League universities. Using this community college guide, students have transferred to universities like Cornell, NYU, UPenn and more.
Over two years, you will spend about $3,600 on tuition at community college. When you include all the other expenses including living, transportation, books, etc, you may be spending around $10,000 per year. Sounds like a lot? It is actually very cheap!
How Much Money You Can Save
When you consider that state funded universities are charging over $16,000 for only tuition, community colleges are a bargain. But, if you consider that top universities charge $50,000 per year for only tuition, going to community college is a steal! Clearly, how much money you are going to save depends on where you transfer to.
Transferring to Ivy League from community college, or other prestigious universities, will allow you to save upwards of $70,000 in only tuition. If you account for living at home and other expenses, you could be saving well over $100,000. For tier 2 and 3 schools, you will not save as much, but it will still be worth it.
Sometimes I wonder why community college do not have a gallery of infographic examples that explains that going to university for the first two years simply is not worth it. The only time I think going straight to university is worth the money is only if you are not taking out student loans to pay for your education.
Otherwise, it is a wise decision to go to community college to save money. You will have the opportunity to transfer to Ivy League and Tier 1 universities while having a phenomenal experience. Even if you can already get into a respectable school, you will have the chance to get into a better one!
