Every few semester or so you get a hankering for some fresh outfits. Whether it's due to a change in the weather or a just because you are in the mood for something new, sometimes you just need to spruce up your options.
Clothes shopping can be expensive, and the total can add up quickly. Of course, you can wait for sales and buy off-season items, but there are a few other ways you can save on the amount you spend on your wardrobe.
Clothing Exchange
Get together with a big group of friends or roommates and hold a clothing exchange. This can be a formal event or something more casual. Normally, everyone who is invited is required to bring a certain number of items. Then, everyone can try on the clothes brought and gets to pick out a certain number of items.
Of course, this doesn't have to be an organized event. You can always just pair up with a roommate and clean out your closets, offering items you don't wear anymore to each other.
Thrift Store Treasures
Thrift stores are a great place to find some good bargains. Some thrift stores are better than others, and often time this time of shopping requires some patience and searching. But, if you happen to have a great thrift store near you, hit it up every so often to see what you can find.
If you're the creative type, thrift store finds are ideal for mixing and matching. You can put together entire outfits for just a few dollars and go home feeling like you have lots of options.
Rethink Your Clothes
It's surprising what new outfits you can put together without spending any money and using the things already in your closet. Go through your closet and donate anything you aren't wearing anymore. Take everything out and look at all your items together. When you are looking at all your items at once, it's easier to find new pairs and new outfits. Sometimes it's easy to get stuck in a rut and you forget that you can mix up the outfits you already have.
You don't have to spend an entire paycheck just to spruce up your wardrobe. In fact, some of the best ways to change things up are also the cheapest ways. Trade clothes with roommates, keep an eye out at your local thrift store and use what you have to create new outfits, and you'll feel like you have a new outfit for every day of the week!
